Connect While You Create

Art at the Library consists of art and crafting events such as painting, printmaking, and making your own tea bags. We encourage people to learn by doing and hope to provide an open and safe environment for participants to try new things!

Open to both teens and adults. Most events include snacks and tea.

Community Read Craft and Chat 

Enjoy tea and a calming craft while discussing one of the Aspen Words Literary Prize shortlist books and some of the heavier topics at the center of these books.

Laser Cutter: Thursday, May 23 | 5:00pm-6:30pm

Find or create a simple design while discussing Temple Folk by Aaliyah Bilal. Then learn to use the Library's laser cutter to make an ornament or a coaster. In the Library Lab.

Paper Crafting: Thursday, June 13 | 5:00pm-6:30pm

Craft with paper to create unique cards or learn a few different origami creations while discussing The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. In the Library Lab.

Beading: Thursday, July 11 | 5:00pm-6:30pm

Use our large bead collection to create bracelets, necklaces, earrings, or other designs while discussing Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. In the Library Lab.

Adult Summer Reading Crafting Events

On select Fridays we will explore different crafts and Library Lab resources. Anyone is welcome to join, you do not have to be part of the Summer Reading Program.

3D Printer Training: Friday, June 21 

Sign up and learn how to use our Library Lab's 3D Printer! The 3D Printer training is about 60 to 90 minutes long. There will be multiple training times available to sign up throughout the day starting at 10:00am. We can only train up to four people at a time.

Cloth Button & Magnet Making: Friday, July 5 | 4:00pm-5:30pm

Make cloth buttons or round cloth magnets in our Library Lab with our new button maker!

Make Your Own Tea Bags: Friday, August 2 | 4:00pm-5:30pm

Join us in the Library Lab and make your own tea bags! The Library will provide all the materials, including a selection of loose-leaf teas that can be mixed and matched to your liking.

Paint Like Bob Ross

Join us for evenings of painting! We will watch one of Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting videos each evening and attempt to follow along with the instructions. We will use acrylics and a smaller canvas so you can take it home at the end of the event. Snacks and tea will be served. For teens and adults. Event takes place in the Dunaway Community Room.

These Thursday events are not classes; we encourage people to learn through trial and error and use our resources to guide them.
