Library Board Meeting

MINUTES of the September 14, 2011 meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees present:  Barbara Reid, John Wilkinson, Judi Harris, Elissa Taylor, and County Librarian Kathy Chandler.  Jim Moran, Austine Stitt and Judy Wrigley were absent.  

MINUTES:  Judi Harris moved that the minutes of the August 12, 2011 meeting be approved.  Elissa Taylor seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.  

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:  

The City will be hosting an open house on Sept. 15. Willis Pember, Suzanne Jackson, and Kathy Chandler will attend and present information about the Library's proposed expansion and the Galena Plaza interface.

Kathy Chandler and Barbara Reid met with Rachel Richards twice and received some suggestions from her on how to prepare for a question on the ballot.

OLD BUSINESS:  

Library Expansion:  Suzanne Jackson will begin the approval process on Friday. Ozi Friedrich will be at the library on Tuesday to meet with staff and work on plans for the interior of the remodeled structure. Kathy Chandler talked with Susan Kent about hiring her again for some oversight work.

Roof Copeing:  Elissa Taylor, Kathy Chandler, and Willis Pember met with Jodi Smith regarding the copeing.  The decision was made to not do any work on the east side of the building, since this is where the expansion would take place.  It was also decided to remove the metal cover over the entrance to technical services and replace the concrete underneath.

 By Laws Revision:  Kathy Chandler gained consensus with the other Home Rule Charter Boards to approach the BOCC about changing the term limits to 5 years.  The deadline for this request had already passed for this year, so the matter will be taken up again next year.

2012 Budget:  John Wilkinson made a motion to approve the Budget for 2012.  Judi Harris seconded the motion, which passed all in favor.

NEW BUSINESS: 

The Library will host a 20th Birthday Party for the building on Sept. 21.  Among the activities for the day, the Library Design Team will present their work to date.

December 4, 2011 Christmas Party!

ADJOURNMENT:  On motion of Judi Harris, seconded by Elissa Taylor, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn.
