MINUTES of the meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on May 9, 2012.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: Jim Moran, Barbara Reid, Austine Stitt, and Judy Wrigley as well as County Librarian Kathy Chandler. Trustees Judi Harris, Barbara Smith, and John Wilkinson were absent.
MINUTES: Austine Stitt moved that the minutes of the April 4, 2012 meeting be approved. Judy Wrigley seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Kathy updated the Board on Marmot matters. She will speak at the Rotary Breakfast meeting tomorrow, May 10. She apprised the group of the status of the legal crafting of the easement language for the Library expansion into the plaza.
OLD BUSINESS:
Library Expansion: Kathy gave the Board a dry run of her planned power point presentation to Rotarians to bring them up to speed on the Library expansion. Spirited and unsolicited Board feedback was forthcoming.
The Board discussed strategies for approaching Library supporters and the community at large in an order to elicit their enthusiasm for the planned expansion. Kathy will provide Board members with a thumb drive filled with salient information to assist them in their community outreach. Since most voters are concerned about tax increases, the Board can confirm that the property tax on a house with an actual value of $1 million will go up $12.21.
NEW BUSINESS: Dress Code for Employees. Kathy said there was none in place but that she would remind the staff to dress appropriately.
