MINUTES of the Regular Meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees onNovember 13, 2013.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees present: Jim Moran, Barbara Reid, Austine Stitt, John Wilkinson, and Barbara Smith. Judy Wrigley and Judi Harris were not present.  County Librarian Kathy Chandler was also present.  Architects Pam Hopkins and Whitney Hopkins attended as did Owners’ Rep Jim Curtis.  Suzanne Jackson from Design Workshop joined the meeting.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES.   Austine Stitt made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 10, 2013, meeting.  John Wilkinson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.  Austine Stitt made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 30 meeting corrected.  Barbara Smith seconded the motion which passed with no dissent.

OLD BUSINESS:  Kathy Chandler advised the Board that, of the $1.2 million gift from Barbara Allen, $200,000 would go towards the expansion and the remaining $1 million would be routed to the Capital Reserve.

EXPANSION: Pam Hopkins, from Snowden Hopkins Architects, reviewed seven options for reinforcing the garage to support the Library addition.  Four options were eliminated for cost or design reasons.  The three remaining viable options will be analyzed and priced.

Suzanne Jackson from Design Workshop apprised the Board of her preliminary concept for landscaping.  She is working to incorporate the Library’s plans into the Galena Plaza design plan. There was discussion about the proposed sunken area outside the Children’s Room.

Pam Hopkins will consult with Gilbert Sanchez of Studio B to see if this would work with his plans for the Galena Plaza.

Suzanne will try to communicate with Jeff Woods of the Parks Department.

All agreed that the first step is to get updates from John Peacock, John Laatsch, and Steve Barwick.

ADJOURNMENT:  On motion of Jim Moran, seconded by Barbara Smith, the meeting was adjourned by unanimous vote.
