Library Board Meeting

Next Meeting:  February 12, 2014 Noon Library Meeting Room

Minutes of the special meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on February 6, 2014.  The meeting was called to order at 3pm.

Roll call:  Trustees  present:  Barbara Reid, Judy Wrigley, John Wilkinson, Barbara Smith, and Jim Moran.  Judi Harris and Austine Stitt were not present.  Librarian Kathy Chandler, County Attorney John Ely, County Manager Jon Peacock, Facilities Manager Jodi Smith, County Intern Kara Silbernagel, and John Keleher also attended.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED CHANGES TO EASEMENT LANGUAGE:  County Attorney John Ely informed the Library Board of his negotiations with City Attorney Jim True regarding a new easement agreement that will allow the library to extend supports to the wall of the parking garage. The wall is 60’ from the library, and the current library easement only allows the library to build 44’ from the present wall of the library building.  The City has proposed flexibility in the easement language that would allow the City to take down the parking garage.  John Ely advised the Board that language needs to be included in the easement that will provide support for the library addition in perpetuity.  The Library Board agreed with John’s advice, and representatives  of the Board will attend the City Council meeting on February 10th to put forward this position.
