Library Board Meeting

Minutes of the regular meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on March 5, 2014.  The meeting was called to order at 12:05.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees present:  Barbara Reid, Jim Moran, John Wilkinson, Barbara Smith and Judi Harris.  Austine Stitt and Judy Wrigley were absent.  Also present were County Librarian Kathy Chandler, Pitkin County Facilities Manager Jodi Smith, Pam Hopkins, Jocelyn Durrance, John Keleher and Jim Curtis.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Jim Moran made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 12, 2014, meeting.  Barbara Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:  The library received five proposals in response to the RFP for a contractor for the library expansion that was prepared and advertised on the library’s behalf by Jodi Smith.  Of the two firms that were shortlisted FCI was chosen by the building committee.

Jodi Smith reported that the roofing contract had been cancelled.  The Board directed Jodi to check with FCI to possibly incorporate the repairs of the existing flat roof with the contract for the addition.

Jodi Smith also reported that she has been gathering data that will help inform a decision on whether the library should use County staff or contract with a cleaning company to clean the building.  She will try to get a better estimate of the administrative costs charged by Pitkin County.

Pam Hopkins reported on progress for plans for the addition.  She is organizing her team and is now working on scheduling.

Jim Curtis reported that the library expansion will be subject to a simplified approval process with the City.

ADJOURNMENT:  Barbara Reid made a motion to adjourn at 1:16.  Barbara Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
