Library Board Meeting

MINUTES of the special meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on December 10, 2014.  The meeting was called to order at 11:38.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees present:  Jim Moran, Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, Judy Wrigley, Judi Harris and John Wilkinson.  County Librarian Kathy Chandler attended.  Also present were Architect Pam Hopkins, Fund Raising Consultant Judy Clauson, Owner’s Rep Jim Curtis, and Owner’s Rep Emeritus John Keleher.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  A motion was made by Austine and seconded by Barbara Smith to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2014, meeting.   The motion passed unanimously.  A motion was made by Austine and seconded by Judy Wrigley to approve the minutes of the December 3, 2014, meeting.  The motion passed unanimously.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:  Kathy reported that the City Council has agreed to allow the Library to use the power plant building through September, 2015.

OLD  BUSINESS:  Pam Hopkins presented the latest revision of the plans for the addition and expansion.  There was discussion about opportunities for naming rights.

Jim Curtis presented the final draft of the Construction and Operation Agreement between Pitkin

County Board of County Commissioners Library Expansion and Renovation Project and City of Aspen Galena Plaza Renovation Project which will now be submitted to both the County Attorney and the City Attorney for legal opinions.  There are some issues to be resolved regarding timing of the construction, the removal of the transformer and the application of snowmelt.

Judy Clauson, fund raising consultant, reported that a recent mailing with a brochure has been sent out.  Judy suggested that the Library pursue grants that may be available from foundations.

NEW BUSINESS:  Barbara Smith brought up the fact that she was not entirely comfortable with the color palette presented previously.  It was decided that the selection should be revisited.

ADJOURNMENT:  A motion was made by Austine and seconded by Barbara Smith to adjourn the meeting at 1:35.  The motion passed unanimously.
