Library Board Meeting

MINUTES of the special meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on February 20, 2013.  Meeting was called to order at 10:09 a.m.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees present:  Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, Jim Moran, John Wilkinson, Judy Wrigley, Austine Stitt and Judi Harris.  County Libraerian Kathy Chandler was also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

The board reviewed the city’s plans for the redesign of the parking garage roof and plaza in regard to design within the easement allotted to the library.  The board wants to make sure that the design of the plaza acknowledges the easement and allows for the most efficient expansion of the library building.

The city is also working on a redesign of Mill Street.  The board feels that the library needs to represent our interests in retaining the two fifteen minute parking places in front of the library.

Kathy presented a proposal from Willis Pember to determine the costs of   installation of transfer beams and column supports both in sequence with the Galena Plaza project and out of sequence with that project and also a structural analysis of the suitability of the existing load bearing capacity of the garage roof deck for a one or two story expansion.  The board members will consider the necessity of determining those costs at this time and discuss the matter at a later meeting.

            February 27, 2013—10:00 a.m.—Special meeting

            March 13, 2013—noon—Regular meeting

            April 3, 2013—noon—Regular meeting

ADJOURNMENT:  At 12:21 Austine Stitt made a motion to adjourn.  Barbara Smith seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
