Library Mezzanine Meeting Room
MINUTES of the meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on July 13, 2016. The
meeting was called to order at 12:10.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Barbara Smith, Barbara Reid, Judy Wrigley,
Austine Stitt, John Keleher, and Judi Harris. Also present was County Librarian Kathy
Chandler. Molly Somes represented the City Parks Department.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: John Wilkinson made a motion to approve the minutes of the
special meeting on June 15, 2016. Barbara Smith seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously. Austine Stitt made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on June
19, 2016. John Wilkinson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Molly Somes of the City Parks Department presented concepts for
bench design on the patio outside the community meeting room to delineate the patio from the
grass on the plaza. The board looked at the patio and offered several suggestions to be explored.
(1) Have the curb ground at an angle (2) Put “Watch your step” signs Molly will explore these
options.
The need for a fence or some enclosure outside the children’s room was also discussed.
Kathy will check on the possibility of filling in the tiles of the ceiling in the community meeting
room with tiles that can preserve the amount of light from the light fixtures.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: FCI and plumbers are working to solve the plumbing problems
experienced since the opening of the library.
PROPOSED DONATIONS: The donation of a piano has been offered to the library. A motion
was made by John Wilkinson to respectfully decline the generous offer of a piano. John Keleher
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The library has been offered the donation of art from a local artist. John Wilkinson made a
motion to create an art review committee. The motion was seconded by Barbara Reid and
passed unanimously. The committee will consist of Barbara Smith and Judy Wrigley.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Barbara Smith to adjourn the meeting at 2:00.
Barbara Reid seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
