MINUTES of the Regular Meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on

May 10, 2017

ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Keleher, Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, John

Wilkinson and Judy Wrigley. Judi Harris was not present. County Librarian Kathy Chandler

attended.

PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Austine Stitt moved that the minutes be approved as submitted. Barbara Reid seconded.

The motion carried unanimously.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:

Benches - Kathy presented drawings of proposed benches outside the Library for the

Board’s comments. The Board agreed that outdoor benches might be a good idea and asked

Kathy to pursue and to report on options.

Curtains in the Community Meeting Room - The Board discussed the estimate submitted

by Adam Schuler of FCI. The Board agreed that it was necessary to see samples from specific

vendors. The Board will then review and decide.

Roof - John Keleher reported that June 23 (or June 30) will be the completion date for the

work by Pacific Sheet Metal. The work is scheduled to start May 11.

Cleaning - Kathy reported that the new service will work for the next 6 months.

OLD BUSINESS:

Board Appointments - The Board cheered loudly for John Keleher on his re-appointment

as a Library Trustee for the next four years. The Board is in favor of adding two alternates to the

Board. To that end, John Wilkinson moved that Article II, Section 1 of the BYLAWS of the

BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PITKIN COUNTY LIBRARY be amended by adding “Two

alternates may be appointed at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners”. Austine

seconded the motion, which passed unanimously, with a second reading scheduled for the next

Board meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Genevieve Smith, director of Library e-content, apprised the Board of the Library’s new

lending platform: Hoopla.

Anna Steinberg, Library Assistant, explained her job duties to the Board.

John Wilkinson reported on his attendance at Library Legislative days in Washington,

DC, last month. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for his work. John explained how

Federal budget cuts would impact local libraries. Congress will revisit the budget in September.

Jane Jenkins’ puppet theater will soon receive a brass plaque acknowledging her

generosity.

ADJOURNMENT: On motion of John Keleher, seconded by Barbara Reid, the Board voted

unanimously to adjourn.
