MINUTES of a Special Meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on May 17, 2017

ROLL CALL: Trustees present: Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, John Wilkinson and Judy Wrigley. Judi Harris and John Keleher were not present. County Librarian Kathy Chandler attended. County Facilities Manager Jodi Smith attended the first part of the meeting.

PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.

OLD BUSINESS:

Revision of the By-Laws: John Wilkinson moved that Article II, Section 1 of the BYLAWS of the BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PITKIN COUNTY LIBRARY be amended by adding: “Two alternates may be appointed at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners. ALTERNATES ARE SUBJECT TO THE SAME ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH IN ARTICLE I, SECTION 4”.

At the end of Article III. Section 7: “Alternates will take turns serving as voting members for the duration of any meeting when a Trustee is absent. Minutes shall reflect which alternate served as a voting member during a meeting.”

Barbara Smith seconded the motion as revised. The motion passed unanimously.

Benches: The Board continued to discuss the addition of outdoor benches around the Library. Kathy showed assorted designs. The consensus was to get pictures and prices of suitable benches. The Board favored bronze color and suggested a backless, armless style, ideally with a divider in the middle.

Draperies in the Community Room: Adam Schuler from FCI joined the Board and Kathy in the Community Room with samples for blackout draperies. The Board discussed various options, reached agreement about the color, and requested Adam Schuler to proceed.

Roof: Jodi informed the Board that the roof repairs are to be completed by the end of June.

Elevators: Repairs will be done shortly on the elevators. One is 25 years old; the other goes Clunk.
