ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Austine Stitt, Judy Wrigley, Judi Harris, Barbara Smith, Barbara Reid and John Keleher. Alternates David Bentley and Elizabeth Nix were present along with County Librarian Kathy Chandler and staff member Genevieve Smith.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Austine Stitt made a motion to approve the Minutes of the September 13, 2017, Board meeting. The motion was seconded by Judy Wrigley and passed unanimously.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The library has acquired back issues of The Aspen Daily News. They will be sorted and a cost estimate will be determined to preserve that information with future fundraising in mind.
Keith Elder of Aspen Music Festival and Jordan Fields from Marmot have committed to a project to link the on-line catalog with the actual Festival recordings with limited on-line access.
The Board agreed to the staff’s request to close the Library on Presidents’ Day, 2018. Presidents’ Day will be February 19.
The Town of Snowmass Village is looking for ideas for use of Building 6 in Base Village. Kathy asked the Board if they had an interest in a Library presence in that location. After discussion, the Board decided that that location was not economically feasible and not a location that serves the local community. The Board felt that a location in the Rec Center would better serve the Snowmass Village residents.
Genevieve Smith gave a presentation on her duties as Collection Librarian. Her wide range of duties includes managing print fiction, audiobooks, playaways and databases. She handles evaluation, procurement, weeding and replacement. She has produced a training manual with all the Library’s policies and procedures which is available to all staff and new hires.
