MINUTES of the meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on February 14, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 12:09 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, John Keleher, Judi Harris and alternate David Bentley who served as a voting member. Trustees Judy Wrigley, Austine Stitt and alternate Elizabeth Nix were absent. Also attending were County Librarian Kathy Chandler and staff member Nathalie Crick.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Barbara Smith made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting on January 10, 2018. The motion was seconded by Barbara Reid and passed unanimously.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS:
Barbara Reid commented that Ken Ransford’s talk on his hiking trip in the Grand Canyon was very successful and well attended.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT AND NEW BUSINESS:
Barbara Reid made a motion, which was seconded by Barbara Smith, to approve the use of the Library for the traditional St. Mary’s Church St. Patrick’s Day dinner and to grant permission as required by Library policy to serve alcohol at the event. St. Mary’s Church is under construction and not available for the dinner. The motion passed unanimously.
Kathy proposed that the Library combine the purchase of staff office furniture with the County’s purchase of furniture for their new building to take advantage of a discount for a large order. A motion was made by Barbara Smith to approve spending up to $250,000 for the purchase of staff office furniture. The motion was seconded by Barbara Reid and passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS: Nathalie Crick, Reference Librarian, was the featured staff member for this month. She joined the Library in 2005 with a master’s degree in computer science. She works on circulation and compiles statistics on patron usage for the management of the collection and manages the Library’s web site and the equipment for the self-check machines. She also organizes an advanced French Chat program and a Financial Literacy program.

ADJOURNMENT: David Bentley made a motion to adjourn at 1:15. The motion was seconded by Barbara Smith and passed unanimously.
