MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Pitkin County Board of Trustees on August 8, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 12:05.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Judi Harris, Barbara Reid, Judy Wrigley, and alternates Elizabeth Nix and David Bentley. Austine Stitt, Barbara Smith, and John Keleher were not present. Also attending was Kathy Chandler, County Librarian.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Judy Wrigley and seconded by Barbara Reid to approve the Minutes of the Meeting on July 11, 2018. The motion passed unanimously.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: Barbara mentioned an article in a local newspaper listing the computers in the Pitkin County Library as a possible place of origin for the social media postings of a person criticizing CP Paws online. A brief discussion ensued regarding privacy issues. Barbara also mentioned an app she heard about used by the San Francisco library system with downloadable materials. It appears we already have access to it through Overdrive.
OLD BUSINESS: The Nominating Committee announced the proposed slate of new officers: John Wilkinson--President, Austine Stitt—Vice President, Barbara Reid—Treasurer, and Judy Wrigley, Secretary. A motion was made by Judy Wrigley to accept the slate of officers. It was seconded by Barbara Reid. It was passed unanimously.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Kathy Chandler discussed the estimate for the new office furniture for staff. She will continue to look for good homes for the old furniture. She also informed us of the cost to replace the equipment used by Grassroots. Lastly, Martha Durgy will add bridge tournament information and Veteran’s Monthly meeting dates to the library calendars.
NEW BUSINESS: Kathy Chandler discussed “Succession Planning” (the impact of future retirements on staffing) and the reclassification of a few positions with the Pitkin County Board of Commissioners recently. The Board of Trustees discussed the preliminary draft of the proposed library budget. John Wilkinson asked for a summary of the capital reserve fund to be addressed in the next Librarian’s Report.

ADJOURNMENT: At 1:15 p.m. a motion was made by Judy Wrigley and seconded by Austine Stitt to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
