MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on May 15, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Keleher John Wilkinson, Judy Wrigley, Austine Stitt, Barbara Smith, Barbara Reid, and alternate Elizabeth Nix. Also attending was County Librarian Kathy Chandler.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The Board deferred approval till next month’s meeting.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: Barbara Reid commented on the successful Cinema Program this winter and our library’s program livestreaming the Aspen Words Literary Prize Awards at the Morgan Library in NYC. Elizabeth Nix gave an update on the Community Read of An American Marriage by Tayari Jones including special events in June and July.
OLD BUSINESS: Kathy Chandler updated the Board on the progress of the Odd Items Lending Committee, the County’s plan for library investments, the pricing by Marmot to host the digital collection of the Aspen Music Festival recordings, and space requirements for computer stations.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
Kathy reported that she is in the process of double checking our policies to make sure they are all in order, to be discussed at a future meeting.
She also reported that after speaking with Phylis Mattice that the courts will not ask to use the Community Meeting Room on a permanent basis while the Courthouse is under construction.
The Board is very interested in participating in the discussion of the landscape design for the Plaza with the City of Aspen. Several Board members plan to attend the May 29th meeting in the Plaza.
The Board is receptive to allowing the City to hang an exhibit of the City’s building plans in our East Foyer with the understanding that they will re-plaster and repaint, if necessary. The agreement will include a date by which any repairs must be finished.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Library Board will meet with the new County Treasurer Ann Driggers to discuss how Library funds are invested. The Board would like to have flexibility in how the funds are invested.
A motion was made by Barbara Smith and seconded by Austine Stitt to approve the slate of new officers presented by The Nominating Committee for officers for the coming year and was unanimously approved: John Wilkinson, President; Austine Stitt, Vice President; Barbara Reid, Treasurer; and Judy Wrigley, Secretary.
