MINUTES of the regular meeting of the PItkin County Library Board of Trustees on July 10, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Judy Wrigley, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, and Judi Harris. Also attending were County Librarian Kathy Chandler, Alternate Trustee Elizabeth Nix, Ann Driggers from the Pitkin County Finance Department, and Scott Prickett and Julie Hughes from Chandler Asset Management.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Judi Harris and seconded by Judy Wrigley to approve the Minutes of the meeting on June 12, 2019. The motion was passed unanimously.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: Judy Wrigley commended Elizabeth Nix and Aspen Words for the success of the community discussion of the novel An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. Elizabeth Nix praised Martha Durgy and Charlie Blackmer for their role in making the event such a success.
Austine Stitt mentioned the dearth of supplies in the Maker Space recently.
OLD BUSINESS: A motion was made by Elizabeth Nix and seconded by Judi Harris to approve the Minutes of the meeting on March 13, 2019. The motion was passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Austine Stitt and seconded by Barbara Smith to approve the Minutes of the meeting on April 10, 2019. The motion was passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Judy Wrigley and seconded by Austine Stitt to approve the Minutes of the meeting on May 15, 2019. The motion was passed unanimously.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Kathy Chandler discussed the meeting held on July 1st by some library staff and Trustees and a meeting on July 2nd by these participants along with Mike Tunte and Austin Weiss to discuss the landscape design for the Galena Plaza. Judy Wrigley requested that Kathy see if the City will post a block or pole to show the length of the new building.
Kathy discussed the meeting she had with Justin Brown from the Music Festival regarding the digitization of the musical recordings. Kathy would like the Library Board to meet with the Music Festival Board in order to make an informed decision about this project if the Music Festival staff do not want to continue providing the library with copies of the recordings.
NEW BUSINESS: The Library Board had the opportunity to meet with Scott Prickett and Julie Hughes from Chandler Asset Management, the firm the County has hired to manage county investments. Ann Driggers from the Pitkin County Finance Department introduced them. Scott and Julie were interested in learning what our goals and risk tolerance are. A motion was made by Judy Wrigley and seconded by Barbara Smith to enter into a contract separate from the County with Chandler Asset Management to manage the library’s portfolio. The motion was passed unanimously.
