MINUTES of the Regular Meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on May 11,

2022

President JohnWilkinson called the meeting to order at 12:07 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Trustees present: Austine Stitt, John Wilkinson. Elizabeth Nix, Barbara Reid,

Barbara Smith, Judy Wrigley, and newly-appointed trustee Anna Scott. Trustee Ashley Connolly

was not present. Pitkin County Librarian Kathy Chandler attended as did Genevieve Smith.

MINUTES: Austine Stitt moved to approve the minutes of the April 13, 2022 meeting. Judy

Wrigley seconded the motion which passed with no dissent.

PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.

TRUSTEES’ COMMENTS:

Barbara Reid commented that she really liked the Jamie LaRue presentation to the Board

at the previous meeting.

John Wilkinson reported on Colorado Library Association’s stance on censorship.

Kathy will let the Board know when Anna Scott’s term expires.

Judy Wrigley expressed her disappointment at having to resign as a Board trustee; she is

moving out of Pitkin County.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:

The Board reviewed library consultant Jamie LaRue’s report on his public outreach on

the topic of consolidating and expanding library services in Snowmass Village.

Kathy apprised the Board of approximate construction costs for a Snowmass Village

library. Discussion ensued concerning the funds available for this project. Given the spiraling

costs of the construction as well as the associated soft costs, the Board examined the possibilities

of going to the voters or of fund-raising. There was minimal enthusiasm for either choice. The

Board discussed the feasibility of proceeding with this project.

John Wilkinson observed that none of the Snowmass Village Town Council members had

attended either of Jamie LaRue’s outreach meetings in April. John will approach the Snowmass

Village Town Manager about getting on the agenda for the next Town Council meeting. The

Board raised the question of how to engage, identify, and reach Snowmass Village residents,

how to get them behind the project, and how to counter opposition.

ADJOURNMENT: Elizabeth Nix moved to adjourn the meeting at

12:55 p.m. Judy Wrigley seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
