MINUTES of the regular meeting of the PItkin County Library Board of Trustees on July 14,
2021. The meeting was called to order at 12:04 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, Judi Harris,
Elizabeth Nix, Barbara Reid, and Judy Wrigley. Also attending was Kathy Chandler.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Austine Stitt and seconded by Judi Harris
to approve the Minutes of the Meeting on June 9, 2021.The motion was passed unanimously.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: Barbara Reid thanked Elizabeth Nix for her organization’s work on
behalf of the current Community Read and also the Library for their programming for the
Community Read. Elizabeth Nix gave an update on a new speaker for the Community Read.
John Wilkinson informed us that he met our State representative Julie McCloskey at a State
Library meeting recently. She is interested in touring our Library. Kathy Chandler suggested we
may wish to invite her to lunch.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Kathy shared Mike Tunte’s response to her memo regarding the
spatial interaction between the moveable glass windows in the Dunaway Community Room and
the plaza, the hardscape, and the sidewalk.
Kathy and the Board discussed the boiler situation and the change of opinion the members of the
Board of County Commissioners had regarding electric vs gas boilers. Barbara Reid suggested
Kathy speak with Mona at CORE to gather more information, as well as finding out the life
expectancy of our current boilers, and obtaining the actual costs of both types of boilers.
Upon hearing about Kathy’s meeting with Clint Kinney, Town Manager for Snowmass Village,
the Board discussed at length various aspects of building a satellite library there. It was decided
to discuss this further at a future meeting after Kathy has spoken to the librarian in Fruita.
OLD BUSINESS: Austine Stitt and Barbara Reid suggested we consider digitizing the
newspapers up until the year each became available online.
A move was made by Judy Wrigley and seconded by Barbara Smith to approve the Second
Reading of a Proposed Policy Revision Governing Use of Small Meeting Rooms. The motion
was carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS: Barbara Smith and Austine Stitt requested Kathy find out what interest our
endowment fund is currently earning. John Wilkinson informed us that the President of the
Summit Library will visit next week. Discussion of the 2022 Budget Proposal will be discussed
at the next meeting.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Austine Stitt and seconded by Barbara Smith to
adjourn the meeting at 1:18 p.m.
