MINUTES of the Regular Meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on
November 13, 2019.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Keleher, Barbara Reid, Barbara Smith, Austine Stitt, and
John Wilkinson. Judy Wrigley, Judi Harris, and alternate Elizabeth Nix were not present.
County Librarian Kathy Chandler attended as did Assistant Director Carol McArdell.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
TRUSTEES’ COMMENTS: There were none.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Austine Stitt moved that the minutes of the October 9, 2019, meeting be approved as submitted.
John Keleher seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The Board gave a second reading to the proposed change to the Meeting Room Policy requiring
requests for use of the Dunaway Community Meeting Room be submitted at least one week in
advance. John Keleher proposed that the policy read: “RESERVATIONS MAY BE
REQUESTED UP TO 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE, BUT A MINIMUM OF 1 WEEK PRIOR
TO A PROPOSED MEETING TIME IS REQUIRED.” Barbara Smith seconded this motion,
which passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Board discussed the Christmas Potluck, scheduled for December 8, 2019, at 5:30 p.m.
The Board discussed having a policy on banning open-carry firearms in the Library. At this
time, the Board will defer to the County’s lead in this matter.
NEW BUSINESS:
Carol McArdell joined the meeting to give the Board an overview of what her job entails. She
gave a description of her educational background as well as her significant responsibilities at the
Library.

ADJOURNMENT: On motion of Barbara Smith, seconded by Barbara Reid, the Board voted
unanimously to adjourn.
