StoryWalk Aspen

StoryWalk® is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s story (a deconstructed book, page by page) along a popular walking route in the community. Conceived as a way to inspire parents, teachers, and caregivers to take young children outdoors to combine physical activity with learning, StoryWalk® helps build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy activity for both adults and children.

New to StoryWalk®, Cindy Moo by Lori Mortensen: After hearing the famous nursery rhyme, the Diddle herd decides it is impossible for a cow to jump over the moon, but Cindy Moo is determined to discover how it can be done.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Sponsored by Friends of the Pitkin County Library.

This project has been made possible through a collaborative effort with Pitkin County Open Space & Trails.

Directions

There are many different ways to get to the Hunter Creek trail when starting from town. We recommend: Walk along North Mill Street (toward Red Mountain) and turn left onto Puppy Smith Street. You will pass the Post Office and see the trailhead for the Rio Grande Trail. Turn right onto the trail. Walk past the Jennie Adair wetlands and over the bridge. You will see the sign for the Hunter Creek Trail on the right side of the path. Turn onto the Hunter Creek trail and after walking for a minute or two, you will see the first StoryWalk post! You can download the map here.
