2026 Summer Reading Program: Unearth a Story
The Pitkin County Library is thrilled to invite the community to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Program, where we aim to spark creativity, explore new genres, and encourage kids, teens, and adults to get involved. Whether you’re reading for fun, attending exciting library events, or completing challenges for a chance to win amazing prizes, there’s something for everyone.
Program Dates:
- Start: Friday, June 5, at 3:00pm-5:00pm during the Kick-Off Party
- End: Wednesday, August 5, at 12:00pm-2:00pm during the Closing Party
Please claim prizes by Wednesday, August 5, at 12:00pm. The Library is unable to provide prizes after this time.
How to Participate:
Register for the Summer Reading Program
First, sign up for the Summer Reading Program! You may sign up in person with a Librarian or fill out the Summer Reading Program Sign-Up Form. If you fill out the sign-up form online on your own online, you will need to speak with a Librarian to receive your Summer Reading Booklet. Booklets for the Teen, Adult, and español para adultos programs may be picked up at the main desk, while the booklets for the Early Literacy and Kids' programs may be picked up at the children's desk.
Age Requirements
Each program is a little different, so be sure to check the rules located inside the relevant Summer Reading Booklet.
- Early Literacy: 0-5
- Kids: 5-11
- Teens: 12-17
- Adults: 18+

This summer, let your imagination soar as you dive into the world of books. Reading isn’t just about finishing books—it's about learning, exploring new worlds, and inspiring ideas.
As you read, track your progress in your Summer Reading Log. The more you read, the more chances you have to win fantastic prizes! There are many ways to read, including books, audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, and graphic novels. Read what you are comfortable with. It all counts! So get to reading and let your summer be filled with vibrant stories and endless fun.
Speak with a Librarian to have your reading log stamped and to collect prizes.

Join us for an exciting lineup of Summer Reading Events at the Pitkin County Library. People of all ages can participate in special storytimes, hands-on activities, concerts, creative workshops, and more. Connect with fellow readers and celebrate the joy of reading all summer long!

Take your summer reading adventure to the next level by completing fun and engaging challenges! Unlock special prizes for completing art-based and reading challenges.
Each summer reading booklet has challenges curated for its audience, and different prizes are available at the main and children's desks. Speak with a Librarian to collect prizes.
