Hours of Operation
The Pitkin County Library is open to the public as follows:
9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. - Monday through Thursday
9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Friday and Saturday
12 noon to 5:00 p.m. – Sunday
Any change in these hours shall be approved by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the Library Director.
Temporary Exceptions to Regular Hours
The Library may be closed temporarily for the following reasons:
- On nationally proclaimed days of mourning, celebration, etc., by action of the Library Director in accordance with action by the County.
- In an emergency such as a weather event, break-down of equipment, threat of violence, natural disaster, etc., by the Library Director or designated staff member.
- In the event of a special meeting or occasion, as deemed appropriate by the Library Director with the advice and consent of the Board.
As time permits, announcements of closing shall be made through email, the website, and social media.
Holidays
The Library is closed on all holidays recognized by Pitkin County, including:
New Year’s Day: January 1st
Martin Luther King Day: 3rd Monday in January
Presidents Day: 3rd Monday in February
Cesar Chavez Day: March 31st
Memorial Day: Last Monday in May
Juneteenth: June 19th
Independence Day: July 4th
Labor Day: 1st Monday in September
Cabrini Day: 1st Monday in October
Veterans Day: November 11th
Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November
Day after Thanksgiving: Friday following Thanksgiving
Christmas Day: December 25th
The Library is closed at 3:00 p.m., or in accordance with County closures, on the eve of Thanksgiving and the New Year; it is closed at noon on the eve of Christmas. When December 25th falls on a Saturday, it will also be closed on Sunday, December 26th.
