MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on January 8, 2025. The meeting was called to order at 12:03 PM in the William R. Dunaway Community Room.

Librarian's Report:
Library New Programs Updates:
- Wolf program presented by ACES on the seventh as part of their partnership this year
- The Lit Lounge Book Club in collaboration with Aspen Word
- Let’s Chat in Spanish – a new program
- ACES Naturalist Nights & Potbelly perspectives
Operations Updates:
- PC has an RFP that the Library has joined to address security needs across various County campuses and address the increase of security issues at the library from year to year.
- Motion by John Wilkinson: For the Library to go forward with the RFP to look at security options- cost & timing TBD, second by Audrey Ellis

- Monique Rodriguez has resigned and joined Eagle County Library. Bradley Peate has been promoted to take over the vacant position. Vicente Lagarrigue was hired to replace Martha Durgy’s position. And temp employee, Patrick Roue, has been offered the vacant full-time position. A new temp will be sought out to help fill out staffing needs.
Budget Updates:
- Friends of the Library Donations: The balance was up this year, and funds were used to provide hands-on STEM programming, Lit Out Loud, a Concert series, and other various programming.
Department Updates: Technical services
- Year-end numbers for programming & outreach were presented in comparison to 2023- some numbers were trending even (new library cards), others up (like digital services & programming in general), and others slightly down (footfalls & physical book checkout).
Building Updates:
- Boiler systems: All three need repairs, and two need rebuilding. Estimates were provided. The board advised Genevieve to ask facilities about replacing boilers now since they will be replaced soon rather than spending money on rebuilding.
- Plumbing- waiting for the final step of installing the vault cap and then the project will be complete. Total cost for plumbing issue/project $243,065
- Cap for the plumbing vault will be installed in the coming week to complete the project
- Radon- suggested they do radon testing in the basement as it is National Radon Testing Month and the City & County are sponsoring test kits.
