Trustees Comments & Librarian’s Report:

 Trustee Comments-

  • John W. thanked Anna for taking the minutes- appreciated the tenacity
  • Audrey Ellis complimented Genevieve and the library team for keeping the plumbing issue to a minimum/ low impact on the public
  • John W. – Had the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) meeting to discuss the reauthorization of funding from the Federal Government that is done every five years (last in 2020)- 60% of Colorado library funding comes from this. Genevieve reminded the board that while they receive a lot of professional support, they only get a small grant from this funding, and that PCLB staff generally remain politically neutral. John also mentioned that he has and will be meeting with reps from Colorado about continuing this funding- has been going to DC for 23 years now.

 Librarian’s Report-

  •  Building Updates: Library Plumbing Update
    • Good news- the water was turned back on November 13th, and regular hours were resumed on the 14th- earlier than expected. Future work includes the installation of a floor vault to access the redesigned / replumbed lines. Total cost is going to be approximately $240,000- some of the work done should last 30+ years and will help reduce issues in the future with the redesign.

  •      Library Programs Updates included:
    • 5Points Film Festival- a free screening; Bike maintenance workshop; Marketing that actually works program.
    • Also, some new Middle School programs- book club and monthly escape room
    • And, lastly, an event in honor of a local student who died of an overdose just after she graduated in the Spring, will happen in March for both youth & adults

  •  Operations Updates:
    • Martha Durgy announced her final retirement (has been working as a Technical Services Assistant since she retired from her prior leadership positions)
    • The library will advertise for two temporary assistant positions and a replacement person for Martha’s position.
  •  Building Updates:
    • New library signage installed!

  •   Budget Updates:
    • A State Library Grant was just received, earmarked for educational resources, and will be dedicated to children’s books.
    • Friends of the Library donations will carry forward a balance into the new year, however, funds received were used for the nonfiction collection, library concert series, Literature Out Loud, Baby STEM workshops and supplies, and special children’s programming (Dia de los Muertos and a visit from the Claus’ in December)
