Kids Summer Reading Program 2024

This year's theme for summer reading is "Adventure Begins at Your Library." We're excited to present activities, programs, and resources focused on summer learning.

This year we will be offering in-person programs and activities. We have collaborations with many different and fun presenters and organizations throughout the community to bring you a variety of learning opportunities.

Prize Machine

Available only on Tuesdays and Saturdays June 7- August 6.

Every Tuesday and Saturday, kids get one turn per day to earn tickets through the Prize Vending Machine.

Located in the Children's Room by the librarian's desk.

Theatre Aspen Storytime at the Hurst Theatre

June 17- August 12 (Mondays at 10:30am, Hurst Theatre)

Join us in partnership with Theatre Aspen for a special run of summertime storytimes! Read, watch, and play at the Hurst Theatre at 470 Rio Grande Place.

Aspen Historical Society Storytime

June 28- August 2 (Fridays at 10:30am)

Join us in partnership with the Aspen Historical Society for a seasonal run of Friday storytimes about the history of Colorado! Children of all ages are invited to listen and learn from Aspen Historical Society educators.

Snowmass Village Storytime at The Collective, Snowmass 

July 11- August 29 (Thursdays at 10:30am)

Join us at the Collective in Snowmass Village for lap-sit storytime, featuring songs and movements to share with your child.

SUMMER READING KICKOFF PARTY

Thursday, June 7 | 2:00-4:00pm

Join us for an afternoon of games, crafts, food, and fun! Register and/or learn more about the 2024 Summer Reading program.

This event will take place outside the Library on the Galena Street Plaza.

SPECIAL PUPPET STORYTIME WITH LIVIER CRUZ  

Thursday, June 20 | 10:30-11:30am

Join us for a special puppet storytime with Livier Cruz! Children of all ages are invited to watch Emiliano: The Last Child on Earth. 

This activity is lead by Livier Cruz in the Dunaway Community Meeting Room.

BABY STORYTIME AND ADVENTURES IN BOOKLAND BABY BOOK CLUB

Special 1000 Books Before Kindergarten book club: Adventures in Bookland!

CHILDREN'S MARIO KART COMPETITION 

Tuesday, June 25 | 1:00-2:30pm

Win raffle tickets for the Children's Summer Reading Program by proving your speed, agility, and skill with the Nintendo Switch. May the best gamer win!

Children ages 8-12 are welcome to the Dunaway Community Meeting Room for an adrenaline-filled racing event.

BILINGUAL ADVENTURE STORYTIME AND YOGA WITH DIANA LAUGHLIN

Wednesday, June 26 | 10:30Am-11:15am

Through mindfulness activities, a short yoga practice, and stories, we will expand upon our regular storytime.

This activity is lead by Diana Laughlin in the Dunaway Community Room.

ADVENTURE MOVIE NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023)

Tuesday, June 26 | 5:00-7:00pm

In celebration of the Summer Reading Program theme "Adventure Begins At Your Library," we invite families with children of all ages to join us for monthly movie screenings in June, July, and August.

Snacks will be provided. 

To kick off a summer of adventure, catch Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Princess Peach, and other favorite Nintendo characters on screen in the Dunaway Community Meeting Room.

TUNES & TALES: A Pizza With Everything On It by Kyle Scheele

Tunes & Tales returns with special musical storytimes in conjunction with the Aspen Music School! Come ready to sing and learn about different types of instruments. 

This activity is in the at the Dunaway Community Room.

CAMPFIRE STORYTIME AT THE LIBRARY 

Thursday, June 27 | 12:00-12:45pm

Earn raffle tickets by submitting your very own campfire stories! Receive instructions for submission in the Children's Summer Reading Program booklet or by signing up through Beanstack. 

A librarian will read the winning tale from the June Campfire Story contest and books with similar themes in the Dunaway Community Meeting Room to celebrate the wonderful creative work from our youngest, brightest patrons!
