Welcome to the Library Lab!
The Library Lab is a makerspace located on the main level of the Pitkin County Library. What is a makerspace, you ask? It's simple! A makerspace is an intellectual space that fosters the ideals of creativity and collaboration by providing free access to tools, materials, resources, and workshops for the community.
The recommended age for the makerspace is 8+ and adult supervision is strongly encouraged if users are under the age of 13.
To reserve equipment and borrow items, users need a library card. If you don't have one, speak with a Librarian to sign up—it only takes five minutes and is free!
Library Lab Offerings
The Library Lab offers a range of uses, including:
- A collection of specialized kits and equipment for checkout! Users can dive into a new project with S.T.E.A.M. kits, capture photos with high-quality cameras, or enjoy board games and puzzles, and we have options for all ages and skill levels.
- Join in on gaming events, like embarking on epic Dungeons & Dragons campaigns or competing at Game Nights
- Workshops, such as Bookbinding, Coding, and Sewing Workshops to refine beginner skills, explore new techniques during Crafting at the Library, and wind down during an evening of Paint Like Bob Ross.
- Training sessions with a Librarian get starting using Library Lab equipment like the 3D Printer and the Laser Cutter.
- Access to iMac computers, sewing machines, photo printing, instruments and recording equipment, and more in the Digital Arts and Media Center, Library Lab Classroom, and Sound Booth.
