Girls Who Code

Hi! I'm Shannon the Makerspace and Teen Librarian and I also teach Girls Who Code. Girls Who Code was designed as an afterschool program to encourage girls to learn about computer science and coding. Over the years it has turned into something much more. It is a sisterhood where young women are supporting one another to be brave, resilient, and innovative.

Pitkin County started a Girls Who Code Club in October 2020. The girls have taught me so much about being brave, resilient, and patient. By encouraging them to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from each other they have also taught me that the "teacher" doesn't always know everything. It is humbling and uplifting to be a part of this program.
